Pine Forge Academy is approximately five miles from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and 40 miles west of Philadelphia. The campus includes Wagner Hall - housing classrooms, the library and administrative offices; Kimbrough Hall - the young women'sdormitory; Handy Hall the young men'sdormitory; North Hall - music center; the Gymnasium and Home economics Building, and the Church, which occupies a central location on the campus and provides for the weekly celebration of Sabbath Services as well as other religious events.
The campus is located in the Berks County, Pennsylvania, on 575-acres of rolling hills and dales, intercepted by the winding, picturesque Manatawny Creek. Pine Forge Academy is caretaker of historically significant land, which goes back to Colonial America in the early 1700's, when Penn decided it as a gift to abolitionist Thomas Rutter.
During the Revolutionary War, General George Washington, whose army was encamped nearby at Valley Forge, had his artillery manufactured at the Pine Forge iron mills built by Colonist Rutter in 1725. Later during the closing years of slavery, Rutter'shouse Pine Manor House†and tunnels criss-crossing the estate served as a station on the Underground Railroad†for runaway slaves escaping north to freedom. Many of the original buildings on the Thomas Rutter estate remain on campus, including the historic Manor House.
